ABOUT NELLE BING
Even as a child, Nelle was a budding musician. A proud band nerd, starting playing the flute in elementary school, switched to the tuba in junior high for a short time, ultimately ending up playing the baritone horn all throughout the remainder of her schooling. During high school Nelle learned to play a large variety of instruments including trumpet, bassoon, french horn, and drums. It was in high school where she began experimenting with composing classical music.
After graduation and no longer a part of a classical band, she ventured to a local pawn shop where she purchased her first acoustic guitar and taught herself how to play. Since then, Nelle has been writing songs for over 20 years and recently decided it was time to learn how to record and produce her own music.
When she's not immersed with music, Nelle is heavily involved in her local community in Columbia Heights, MN. She was a founding Board Member of a non-profit known as HeightsNEXT, a grassroots group that works to help the community in many different ways. In 2018 she ran for local City Council, unfortunately losing to a long-sitting incumbent by only 50 votes. She is currently working on forming a second non-profit - CoHiCreativesCollective, which is currently hard at work on an anthology project called “Stories from the Surge," collecting stories from individuals affected by Operation Metro Surge that took Minnesota by storm earlier this year.
Above all, Nelle is a proud mother of a pre-teen daughter who inherited the musical gene as well. Her daughter is involved in band through her school, and chose to be a flautist, following in her mother's footsteps. Nelle is married, recently celebrating their 15 year anniversary. However, she and her spouse have been together for 20 years.
Aside from music, Nelle enjoys writing, crafting, and gardening. At this time she is highly focused on building her music career, ultimately looking forward to playing some live shows in the near future.
